Custom Equipment History

Custom Equipment was started in 1981 by Steve and Lynn Kissinger as a small fabrication and welding repair business.  The first shop was located on North Main Street in West Bend, Wisconsin.  Here, we gained a reputation for providing creative solutions, superb customer service and quality workmanship.  It was here that the first “2-in-1” scissor lift was designed and manufactured for use in mausoleums.

Our company soon outgrew this location and, in 1993, moved into a larger place on the south side of town on Progress Drive, where we continue to manufacture our scissor lifts today.  In 2004, after recognizing the need in the construction and industrial markets for a smaller, light-weight lift, Custom Equipment designed and started manufacturing the HB-1030 Hy-Brid Lift.  In 2007, the Hy-Brid Lift line was expanded adding the HB-1430 which gave users a 20ft working height.

Needing a larger facility due to continued growth we moved the assembly operations and office personnel to our corporate headquarters in Richfield, Wisconsin.  In 2010, the HB-P830 and HB-830 lifts were introduced to the market.

In 2017, Steve and Lynn decided it was time to step back from the day-to-day operations at Custom Equipment. In October 2017, they partnered with the Stratford-Cambridge Group, a private investment firm based out of the Detroit area in order to continue its history of growth and innovation. The Kissinger family still play active roles within the company and Steve and Lynn can still be seen around here from time to time.

While we have grown from a small family owned business to a globally recognized aerial equipment manufacturer, we strive to maintain our commitment to producing a quality product and maintaining superb relationships with everyone involved.
