Motor Controller Code Reading Procedure

If you are experiencing a drive problem on a Hy-Brid lift, the following procedure will allow you to diagnose the problem quickly. The trouble codes can be found on page 19 of the machines operators' manual.

The Curtis motor controller is unique in the fact that it will perform diagnostics of the drive system by flashing codes. The codes will be flashed on the LED located next to the key switch. In normal operation, the LED will illuminate steady when the enable trigger is squeezed on the joystick. If there is a malfunction in the drive system, the LED will flash fast when the enable trigger is squeezed on the joystick.

To retrieve the codes, squeeze the enable trigger and continue to hold. The LED will flash fast for approximately 10 seconds. During this time the system is running a diagnostic check for problems. When the LED stops flashing fast, it will then begin to flash codes. For example, the LED flashes 3 times, pauses and then flashes twice. You have retrieved a 3-2 code indicating that there is a brake on fault. It is possible to retrieve multiple codes so be careful to observe all the flashes and pauses.

Some common codes seen are 3-2, brake on fault. This code is displayed if one or both of the brake levers have been released. Another common code is 1-2. This code indicates a throttle fault. From our experience this code relates to moisture at the 10-pin connector on the chassis. Again, all the trouble codes can be found on page 19 of the machines operators' manual.
